Tyler Matthew has arrived!!

Tyler Matthew Anderson
Born August 22, 2013 at 12:09 p.m.
9 lbs., 9 oz., 21 inches

We are thrilled to announce the arrival of Tyler Matthew Anderson!  And I'm also happy that I've finally found time to update the blog with pictures of his birth!  Life is great, but super busy to say the least.  I wouldn't trade it for anything though!  :)

The "big day" went pretty quickly (thankfully!).  Around 1:30 a.m., I thought contractions were starting, but they were pretty irregular.  At the same time, Evan also woke up saying he didn't feel well.  I swear he knew that Baby Brother was coming!  At 2:30 a.m., I told Erik that I thought today was "the day."  Of course it also happened to be a day that he had a big project at work due, so he woke up and worked to try and finish what he could!  At 5:00 a.m., we loaded up the car with all of our bags, Evan and Lucy, and drove to my parents house in Troy.  It was an uncomfortable car ride for me, but we made it!  At 7:00 a.m. we arrived at the hospital.  In between contractions I completed the hospital paperwork (the lady working the desk moved wayyyyy to slow for me at this time!).

By the time I was admitted and we got to the L&D room, contractions were coming a little less than a minute apart and I was ready for the epidural.  Unfortunately the epidural didn't come until 10:00.  I won't even try to describe the pain & frustration until then.....there's a reason women forget about labor pains - so we'll produce more kids!  Once Dr. Epidural arrived, it was smooth sailing from there.  Erik said the smile I gave him once the epidural was in was priceless.

With an amazing nurse and doctor, and my wonderful husband by my side, I pushed for all of maybe 10 minutes and then Baby Tyler arrived!  I really couldn't have asked for a better delivery and team of people by my side.  Baby Tyler was a BIG BOY!  I couldn't believe it when they said he was 9 lbs., 9 oz!!

Things we know about our new little man so far:
- He is settling into a routine pretty well already; eat/play/sleep every 3 hours (although sometimes the 'play' gets difficult!).
- Newborn clothes lasted about 4 days.  He's much more comfortable in the 3 month clothes now.  :)
- He's a healthy boy all around.  The Dr. said he was impressed with Tyler's weight gain since birth and all his other stats.  Way to go Tyler!
- He is a strong little guy.  He's already doing a great job with tummy time, moving his head side-to-side, and pushing with his legs (which he did a lot of in my belly!).
- He goes through A LOT of diapers.  Here's my stab at the math: 9 feedings a day, 2-3 diapers after each feeding = 18-27 diapers A DAY!  Wow!

Everyone asks how Evan is handling the big brother role. He is actually really great with Tyler, wants to give him kisses, help me with diaper changes, and tells him "it's ok Tyler" when he hears him crying.  Evan doesn't understand that he could really hurt Tyler when he jumps around him, throws cars in his crib, tries to cover him with a blanket, etc., so Erik and I can't keep Tyler unattended for even a second!  Thankfully Evan will continue at his school 3 days a week, staring pre-school this Tuesday already (*tear!).

We are adjusting to life as a family of 4, and thankful that Tyler seems to be settling into a routine pretty well.  I spend most of my day on the couch feeding him and time time in between feedings preparing for the next feeding, chasing Evan and keeping up with stuff around the house.  Erik and Evan are enjoying lots of quality time together too.  I don't know how single parents do it.  I would be lost without Erik's support!  We aren't venturing out of the house too much yet since leaving requires a lot of work & coordination that I'm just not ready for yet.  We made an appearance at a family party yesterday and it took me about 3 hours to prepare to leave the house.   Phew!

And now for some pics!

Week 38 pregnancy pic - soooo ready for baby to arrive!

It's labor day!  A pic in between contractions while we wait to head to the hospital.

Drum roll please......Tyler Matthew has arrived!

Happy parents :)

Dr. Condevaux who delivered Tyler.  Dr. C used to work with my doctor in Colorado.  It was meant to be!

Very happy Momma (and shocked....9 lbs. 9 oz!?)

Proud Daddy

Grandparent and Big Brother visit

Our family of 3 grows to a family of 4!

Evan wasn't that interested in Tyler and we actually had to bribe him to get this picture.

Tyler: "It's been a pretty rough day for me and now I have to deal with this?!"

Just after this picture, Evan decided he was done holding Tyler and pushed him forward.  As you can see, my arm was right there to catch him!

Grandma & Grandpa Anderson visit

Another boy to add to the Anderson family of all men!

Evan came back for another visit and had lunch with us in the hospital.  All he wanted to do was run around the hospital room in his underwear and push buttons on anything he could find.  Here he was helping me change Tyler's diaper, telling Tyler "it's ok baby, don't cry."

Evan locked the buttons on the bed and after he left I couldn't figure out why the bed wasn't working.

Playing dress-up already

Welcome to the world, Tyler Matthew.  You're going to be one loved and happy little boy with us!  Someday you and Evan will be best buddies, I know it.  I'm loving every second with you already and cherish these baby moments (even at 2 a.m.) because I know how fast they fly by!

Love, hugs & kisses,
Mommy

More pics to come of Tyler's first days home once I get them downloaded!
