Evan LOVES to be outdoors. The long days and great weather are just what he needs to run around and burn off his endless energy. I really miss having a fenced in yard though. It's weird that a majority of the homes in MI do not have fences. I'm by no means a lazy parent, but sometimes it would be nice just to send Evan and Lucy outside without fear they are going to run into the street or where they shouldn't be. We had to intsall an invisible fence for Lucy and I asked the installed if they had a system like that for kids. Maybe just a sensor system to see when they leave the yard? Nope, no luck.
Evan's vocabulary continues to grow. Some recent Evan statements:
- "Mommy, I just have to go outside and relax" says Evan as he opens the back door with frustration from breaking a wheel on his truck.
- "I have fun at school. I play, I color for Mommy. But I forgot my picture. I'm sorry." He says this while throwing his arms down all disappointed that he forgot the picture.
- "I need batteries for my toy. We need to go to the store."
- "I'll go get my tools to fix it."
- "Where are my friends?" He says this when we show up to an event early and his friends aren't there yet. Mr. Social!
Fun at the beach with friends
Celebrating Father's Day at the zoo with Daddy
Play date with Baby Madelyn (I think Evan thinks that is her full name because he calls her Baby Madelyn). Evan tried to get her to play with play doh with him. Such a good cousin!
"Baby Madelyn, do you want to see this mirror? Do you want to play with a truck? Do you want a cookie? Can I have your cookie?"
With the nice weather, we started up our outdoor projects. The biggest being our brick patio! Evan LOVED the construction because we had a truck in our yard for a week and lots of dirt for him to play with.
Did I mention all the dirt? Our neighboars were having yard work by the same company done too and our driveway became the dirt dumping grounds.
I would've been a bad mother if I DIDN'T let Evan climb all over this. Next time I would just put him in his underwear though!
The finished project. Landscaping the backyard is going to take a long time....and a lot of $$....all in time (I keep telling myself!).
We're always on the lookout for fun, FREE activities we can do with Evan. The best recent finds are at Lowe's & Home Depot. Once a month they have kid building activities that we'll take Evan too. He loves using a hammer and painting his projects. The events are free, but with the $$ we spend at these two stores, we pay for it eventually!
I took Evan by myself to the Lowe's event. There's a reason why Daddy usually takes him. I'm not the best with building things and spent most of the time copying what the 7 year old next to me was doing while Evan hammered on the ground waiting for Mommy to figure out the project.
Thankfully Daddy supervised the Home Depot event where Evan built a little toy lawn mower. I watched and ate the free popcorn. He chose the paint colors!
Takin' a break from the landscape & hardware stores for a jump in the pool. I'm pretty impressed that my iPhone captured this picture where you can see Evan's footprints in the water.
I should send this picture to Lifetime to use as an ad for their next pool party event.
Back to work, planting trees & flowers in the front yard. There are pros & cons to buying a new construction home. We sure have invested a lot in the house already from paint to trees, toilet paper holders, towel bars, and more! The things you take for granted when you buy an existing home.
My husband, the Engineer. Making sure the trees are in a perfectly straight line.
Evan kept re-filling the holes we dug.
This picture describes a trip to the grocery store with Evan. Now even the fun carts don't entertain him. Someone in line said "he could fall & hurt himself." My reaction? "You try to get him down." I'm sure she judged me especially when she saw I'm producing another child.....or maybe she felt sorry.
We took Evan to his first parade for Memorial Day. When we told him he could take a bucket & fill it with candy, he was super excited!
My handsome little man
Evan with his buddies Kellan & Luke
There were times when Evan seemed to be part of the parade as his chased down the people throwing candy.
Mr. Patriotic
Eveyday we continue to build our life here in MI. Keeping up with Evan and getting involved in activities with him has really been a great way for us to meet friends and find reasons to love MI again! Time flies with an almost 3 year old and I often find myself forgetting that Baby A arrives in 8 weeks (yikes!). On that note, time to pick out a paint color for his room!
